Hear from our people

Michael DeKock – Senior Project Planner
After more than 20 years in project planning, I wanted something bigger: global projects that would challenge me while still offering stability for my family. That’s what brought us to Europe. Uprooting your life is never easy, but with the strong support I received, the process felt manageable. From paperwork to settling in, the guidance was clear, and colleagues were welcoming both professionally and personally.
The Netherlands has surprised me in the best way. Work here is direct, structured, and efficient, but at the same time there’s a real respect for balance. I’ve learnt to truly value that. The most rewarding part has been showing myself and my family that we could make the transition and seeing how much we’ve gained by doing it. It has been both a career step and a personal milestone, and I’m grateful for the stability and growth that have come from taking the leap.

Bruce Stevens – Client Safety Manager
Back home, I was used to 14–16 hour days, with work taking over everything. Moving to Europe has completely changed that. Here, I work my hours and when I’m home, that’s it – my time is my own. It’s been a real eye-opener.
The biggest reward for me has been shutting down my computer on Friday and not switching it back on until Monday. That freedom to spend time with my family, play golf, cycle, or walk the dogs is priceless. Relocation had its challenges, but the balance and quality of life I now have make it more than worth it.
On a professional level, the projects are larger and more complex, which has pushed me to grow. Colleagues are focused and supportive, and the culture values efficiency without losing sight of people. That balance has been refreshing, and I see it as the foundation for building a long-term career.

Juan Retief – Senior Cost Manager
Moving from South Africa to Sweden was a leap into the unknown, but also a chance to grow in ways I had been craving. The projects here are large-scale, complex, and demanding, yet what struck me most was the balance in the work culture. People are efficient and focused, but equally value life outside the office. That balance has been refreshing.
Adjusting to the weather and a new culture took time, but Linesight supported me from the start – from logistics to making me feel part of the team. The encouragement I received made the transition smoother than expected, and gave me confidence to settle in quickly. Looking back, the move has given me more than a career shift. It’s expanded my horizons personally and professionally, and I see myself living and working here for many years to come. The relocation wasn’t just about work; it was about creating a life where both career and family could thrive.
Where you can work
Europe offers more than career opportunities. It offers a lifestyle upgrade for you and your family. At Linesight, we operate in some of the continent’s most dynamic and welcoming locations: Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Sweden. Each offers professional growth, cultural richness, and family-friendly living, making them ideal for South African professionals ready to take the next step.
Germany We deliver high-tech data centre and life sciences projects in cities like Frankfurt and Munich. Germany is known for its economic strength, world-class healthcare, and excellent infrastructure. It offers a safe, structured environment for families, strong demand for skilled professionals, and streamlined visa pathways. This makes it a top choice for stability and career progression.
The Netherlands Linesight is active just outside Amsterdam, as well as in Middenmeer and Groningen. Dutch culture values work-life balance, with average working weeks of around 35 hours. Highly skilled migrants benefit from generous tax incentives, and there is a thriving South African community. Safe cities, excellent schools, and a welcoming culture make it a great place to raise a family while building your career.
Belgium Our teams are working on commercial and infrastructure projects in Brussels and Antwerp. Belgium’s central location offers quick access to Paris, Amsterdam, and beyond. It combines high-quality education, multilingual communities, and rich cultural heritage. For South Africans, the similarities between Flemish and Afrikaans ease integration. The lifestyle, from festive markets to gourmet food, feels both familiar and new.
Sweden Home to some of our most sustainable projects, Sweden leads in environmental innovation and social equality. It ranks among the best countries in the world for family life, offering extensive parental leave, free education, and universal healthcare. With clean cities, an outdoor lifestyle, and progressive values, it is an ideal destination for those seeking a safe and inclusive society.
Whether you are drawn by career opportunities, quality of life, or the chance to build a secure future for your family, Linesight’s European locations offer everything you need to thrive.
